The purpose of this program is to optimize the safety and well being of university laser users who work directly with class 3b or class 4 lasers.
Laser users at the university are identified by REHS (Rutgers Environmental Health & Safety). REHS does extensive educational training on the safety of using a laser. Once the
educational session is completed, REHS communicates to Occupational Health the names of the laser users and the type of laser they use. The laser user is told to contact Occupational Health to schedule a physical exam. Laser users should have an initial exam prior to use of the laser as well as an exit exam upon leaving the university.
